We are looking into Sakura's slide scanner for frozen sections.
We looked at several a few months back and liked the Sakura model
best but put it on the backburner. Now we're ready to purchase.

Try floating your sections on room temperature (in a shallow dish) water then
carefully, on a slide, transfer to the waterbath. Sections will spread better
when they hit the warm water.

Not only is it easier, it's more consistent. We use Richard-Allen Hematoxylin
II and Eosin. They stain beautifully. There are many different vendors, you'll
have to find one your pathologists like.

tried two different slide
manufacturers, both silane coated, and are getting the same result. Not sure
where to go at this point except to try anon-coated slide. Any suggestions on
a manufacturer or vendor??

Every tech in my facility uses something different. Some use fingers, some use
forceps (usually curved), one uses a teasing needle and one uses a paint brush.
It's up to the individual's technique but we do try to discourage using one's
fingers too close to the blade.

I have to agree with Jay. A couple of years ago, we purchased new, expensive
lab
chairs (from an office supply store that customized) and they look great even
now. I think it's worth the money from an ergonomic standpoint and also because
they hold up much better.

Sorry, no help here. We have lab assistants that manually coverslip and
excellent ventilation in our newer facility. It is the position of the director
that a lab assistant is cheaper than an automated instrument! Go figure!

We had the same problem here and after much QC to follow
trends, found that it was the same two clinicians. They
had 2 of 8 exam rooms with the wrong lubricant and also
needed more information on collection. Since then, no
further problems.
