I agree with Carol, my lab uses DPX and I have not had a problem with the
product drying out. I do notice that if air gets trapped in the viscous
solution there is a potential for the coverslips to fall off or have large air
pockets.

I have been ask to decal ( 14% EDTA ) and process 1 day old mice
heads. My investigator is looking for a phenotype in the calveria .
After processing, the heads will be embedded on end then sectioned.
I have never processed whole heads . I would love to hear from any body
that has experienced

We process quite a few samples as well and I did them at Hopkins with a similar
time frame for the old tissue. We did not experience the problems you are
referencing when we pulled the cases out from storage. What is the exact type
of artifact that you are seeing? Is it freeze/thawing
