Here's the opinion of an 85 year old pathologist who in the course of his
training spent a year doing histochemical research. In my experience,
pathologists aren't allowed much input in the selection of controls.
Anyone doing special stains needs to be able to evaluate the control slides

May I ask, in all your opinions, Who is supplying the best control slides for
clinical settings? Both Special Stain and IHC? What would you like to see in
your control slides? What don't you want to see- long lead times, quality? As
for Research, what are your requirements?
I am curious to know if there is any interest in positive/negative control

Hey Cynthia-
I’m curious what you used for an in-house control?
I bet you have some in-house tissue that will work as well as the purchased
controls.
Try out a big piece or lung or colon adenocarcinoma from a resection, if you
can.

Hello.
Hoping someone can help me. Typically we order TAG 72 control slides from
Cell Marque.(our Docs are unhappy with our in-house control tissue, we've
tried). Cell Marque is on B/O no ETA. So my backup is Cancer Diagnostics,
they are 2-3 weeks out to fill our order. Any other companies out
Good Morning-
We keep a control tissue log that documents where the tissue comes from, what
stains it is used and has been tested for, when each block is put into use and
exhausted and pathologist of record. When a block goes into use, do you mark
on each slide the date it was cut (for those
We actually just stared keeping a log for special stains, always for IHC. Our
rule of thumb is that an IHC control slide cannot be oler than 6 months,
although we go through most of them much faster. For the basic IHC, tonsil,
fallopian tube etc we do not log the case information for IHC
I am in need of control slides (already stained) of different type special
stains for teaching purposes. H E slides also needed. If you are in the
Maryland area I may be able to pick up from your area. If out of state I'll
pick up shipping .

I never bought a single (+) control slide. I prepared mine from the (+) cases

How often do you use a HE control slide per day? Do you run it once after
the stainer has been changed, once with each rack put on the stainer, after
x number of racks etc? Does anyone have a specific procedure they would
like to share for this QC step?
Thanks!

block of flag transfected cells.

I was always of the opinion that since a delipidized frozen section, treated
with toluene/methanol, run in parallel with the patient slide constituted
adequate control. Recently though, I've mellowed and realized that only shows
a difference in staining between the two slides, not the
