because a more experienced "person" could imitate a header too... pgp is not hard to handle, there are tons of tools which have a pretty good usability and also such a "system" would add a way to verify the sender. another way would be to add SPF records to the valvesoftware.com zone and enable SPF

If the usage was kept constant in each patch it would be fine, the trouble is it's up and down like a yo yo (well just up recently) and that makes it very hard to plan things. Might also be nice if they let the players know about the increased usage so they understand when servers have to be taken
