What ever the problem was I started Steam tonight and it is working

So, I see this on my server. Curious as to how they were able to even get
this far if their steam account didn't own the game.

This is a problem that Valve introduced with the latest client update.
People all over the world are freaking out because they can't join servers
from the server list.
As the official custodian of the THWACK! stick, it is my solemn duty to

Thanks Doug... My HL1 server has less traffic also... now I know I'm not
crazy.
Steam really needs to do a better job at checking these updates before they
get released to the public. I realize Steam has a lot on their plate but
it looks real bad when an update creates new problems.

All I know is over half of my clan started freaking out on Saturday morning
after their steam client updated. Ever since the update, our HL1 servers
have had less traffic...

This is a problem with the Windows based GUI. If you enter the HL1 game,
and then click "Find Servers", then you can connect to any of them. If you
attempt via the GUI, you get the error.
