While that may well be true, there are LOTS of 24 player servers running the
base maps config that Valve can use as a base line for monitoring. Surely
leaving 32 player servers in wouldn't hurt them too much as they could do
the filtering on their end.
Plus if there were lots of issues with
Plus if there were lots of issues with servers crashing, then those servers
would end up empty, because people would get fed up with the crashes.
And everyone would whine about Valve's shoddy coding reducing their reputation
and all because of 3rd party modifications...

At a time when stability and management are fleeting memory, you step up
with this jem. It helped out tremendously last night.

And don't think Valve need to worry about people whining about shoddy
coding.
Half of the people can't play the Orange Box because of bluescreen
errors after the release.
And all because of their own coding.

I am one of those people and the steam forums is filled with people
having the same problems.

No, to my knowledge he hasn't released a Linux binary yet.
Speaking of, Jan, do you guys host both Linux and Windows servers supporting
TF2? I'm experiencing tickrate/server FPS issues and wonder if anyone else is
noticing the difference between the 2 platforms.

GIven I haven't actually seen a post with regard to why valve have
carried this out I'm not going to join in the guessing game ...It
would just be nice to be kept in the picture rather than having to
troubleshoot why your server is no longer appearing in the master
browser list.

We don't have all the necessary files for Linux yet. Trying to access a
convar will crash the game on Linux with the current set of SDK updates that
have been released early.

Are you guys crazy?? I have 6 22 slot TF2 servers running at the moment and
they are topping out at 14 - 17 player averages. They are hardly ever full.
Lets fill our servers first then bitch about the limits...

Yet, if you had 4 32 slot servers (before they gimped the list) You would
have most likely had 4 FULL servers...
It is a fact that the 32 slot servers were more popular than the smaller
ones. It is true of almost all the mods. People love a crowd!
I'm not saying they were the only full servers,
I host both win and Linux TF2 servers, and sadly, notice better performance
on Win 2003 SP2 versus the latest distro of Red Hat. This is on identical
hardware in a mainstream datacenter. What kind of numbers are you seeing?

Two quick questions, since I haven't set up my dedicated server yet.
1. Are bots available in the dedicated server? They're not an option
using the retail game Create Server.
2. Did Valve
