There's always been a command-line steam client for Linux, how do you think
we update our servers? :P

I think he meant the actual Steam client. In which case his answer is no.

I think the Linux stuff means we no longer have to symlink the steam
binary for autoupdate to work... we used to have to do cd .. in our
srcds_run to make auto update work. Now they're searching .. for us.
Could it be that autoupdate finally works?!

A Valve employee already posted on the forums that they're extending it to

Why would they even try to do that in the first place? The
achievements, expect for the gibus one, will be disabled together with
the halloween mask. No need to do remove the map, in fact many players
think the map is awesome so removing it seems kind of stupid.

I could be wrong but the achievements (other than the Ghastly Gibbus)
are all map-dependant. Therefore it would be the onus of the server
operator to fix their own map lists.

A Valve
They could remove support for the ghost/pumpkins from the game (I'm guessing
it's just an entity with some paths?). Also remove the dependent textures,
sounds, models, anims. This wouldn't keep anyone from running the map but it
would add some... annoyances for whoever wanted to bring it back in.
Well, the thing is, there are two versions of harvest on the server, one
that is koth_harvest_event, which is the halloween event map, then a
koth_harvest_final, which is the version of harvest that doesn't have
all the halloween stuff in it. I see them removing koth_harvest_event,
then
The different map cycle file is a great idea, cant believe I didn't think
off it sooner.

Yeah what the F was up with that. BTW, your previous maplist/mapcycle
files are moved to a backup, maplist.txt.steam_backup or something like
that.

Unfortunately the same can not be said for the 2 motd files :(.

Like said earlier, I think the best way to deal with this is to set
your motd/config files to non-standard files. then if they ever
update, who cares.
