I have a motd using the methods advised. Can anyone tell me how I can add a
scroll bar down the side? The in-game one doesn't seem to work? So if my
motd is longer than can fir on the screen, you can't see
But what's the point when people have said over and over again that to
redirect your motd to an external webpage all you have to do is put
the link in with nothing else at all?
(I fear you may not have known because you didn't read all the
replies, 9 of them, gasp!)

I should mention, sorry, that I seem to have 2 scroll bars and not one
when I do that. If you were trying to get one then maybe it will work
*feel silly now*

Not 9 replies... Just 9 to this message. 1500 messages in my inbox, but

Here are two sample

Does anyone know why they limit the size of the server welcome page
(motd.txt) to 1.5K? This really puts a creative damper on the whole
greeting.
My in-game welcome page is a scaled down version of the link below.

The size is limited by the networking system (which is designed around
small, extremely low latency events, not large text files). Rather than
putting the html document in the MOTD itself just put a HTTP URL in the
file (and nothing else) and the client will load that.

Just use the motd.txt to point to a webpage containing the motd you want.
A lot more than 1.5k here.

One way to overcome
Just do this..
Open motd.txt, remove everything, add this:
html
head
titleCStrike MOTD/title
meta http-equiv=Content-Type content=text/html; charset=iso-8859-1
meta http-equiv=Refresh content=0;url=http://yoursite.com/motd.html;
