If I remember correctly the official statement was that the old hlds tf2
servers would continue to function until a mandatory update is/might be
released as there is the possibility of it breaking compatibility. They did
also state that the old hlds method of severs was no longer supported
though,
The old version still works until another update is released, this was to
allow time to transition over from hldsupdatetool to steampipe as far as I
know.

function once the clients were switched over to SteamPipe. So this is
not the case?
I still have my old server installations.. maybe I should switch back
until these performance issues are worked out.

With all the things I keep reading about to do with Steampipe servers, e.g.
CPU spikes, RAM usage (here), and another MvM server not receiving the same
amount of matchmaker traffic compared to hldsupdatetool server version, I'm
sticking to the hldsupdatetool server version until an update forces me
