RE: [hlds_linux] Anyone Ever Try Use Beowulf To Run a HLDS Server

Short answer: There would be no advantage to running an HLDS server on a Beowulf cluster. HLDS is a single process. It doesn't spawn children. Beowulf clusters are useful in circumstances where a master application spawns many child processes, or consists of multiple main processes. Think of

Quoting [EMAIL PROTECTED]: Short answer: An nice definition, thanks Stan. Think of a cluster system, including Beowulf, Mosix, MPI, PVM, etc, as an SMP with slower interprocess communication. Clusters work well on parallel codes, but not on serial codes, unless you have a lot of serial

I'm glad you brought this up. I just had a lengthy chat with UNI, an 11 year old (according to him anyway) cheater on the OGC IRC channel. He said PharLap was correct to blame me for the DOS attack, because I suggested it on the hlds list, even though I wasn't the one who did it. I will say,

Look into Mosix. It's a kernel patch that load balances processes across the cluster, much like in an SMP. Keep in mind, though, that all network and file IO (IIRC) stays local to the login node that the process is started on, so you'll definitely want to have a very fast switched network, and

Thank you anyway for trying Frank! I think the problem was partly related to the names having a space in them, I have not had a crash since I removed it. I did take them down to 4 instead of 6 before changing the names though so that may have also been part of the problem. They have always been

OGC often leaves behind traces and doesn't fully uninstall. To my knowledge the only way to fix this is to reformat. I'm sure there is an easier way. I just don't know it. Joshua -Original Message- From: Chatlak.Net Administrator [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Sunday, September 01,
