CS will die, as most of the current mods, if ms (do u know
http://www.againsttcpa.com/index.shtml ??) get his hands on valve. The
HL-Community is like the OpenSource thing and with "big brother watching
you" I'll quit my engagement, too.
Plz don't let this happen... or "a never ending story" will

Heck, even if they continue to maintain the linux server I'd stop playing cs
and running cs servers

It's not a rumor. My ex roommate works for Vivendi...makes the children's
games, actually (like Math Blaster). He confirmed this when I asked him
about it. He's not sure what impact this might have, either, but he's
really only concerned that he keeps his job, which he will, and I imagine

Hm, if MS buys Vivendi, nothing happens to our HL and TFC Servers, and other
mods.
Even if MS buys valve, we just keep running the current versions.
And if they develope CZ as a XBox only title, we all keep playing 1.5, and
running our servers 1.5
HL and CS in the current form will never die throug

I would have to stop running my TFC servers as well since I dont' have any
Windows servers in my farm. But let's wait and see if this actually happens.
It seems unlikely to me.

Only if it's true. Always take Slashdot posts with a grain of salt.
If it was true, and the linux server disappeared - i'd stop playing CS
and running CS servers.

I was at a LAN party about a month ago and tried connecting to a LAN
server before I was connected to the internet myself. I was getting
that error UNTIL I established my connection to the internet so I would
tend to think it does involve the WON.

I run a LAN server and just started having the same problem. I don't
think that it is a problem with WON.

Could this be the end of the HL Linux server as we know it? I wonder if
the delay of CZ has something to do with it becoming a "Xbox" only title
for a couple years, sorta like what happened with Halo.

I had simular problems earlier this year.
I used every trick in the book, but didn't find any problems... until I
checked my .cfg-type files.
run: cat -e server.cfg
and see if the $ is at the start or at the end of the lines.
If it's at the start of every line i.e. $p_startmoney 800 instead of
