It seems Linux is more the choice of operating systems for game servers.
Hm, but that statement might start some holy wars over OS's so I'll just
stop now :)
I run both FreeBSD with Linux emulation and native Linux as a platform for
gaming. Both have their good and bad points.

I'm running 4.11-STABLE on dual Athlon platform. I've not wanted to

Do you run with a stock kernel if so then that would easily
explain the difference. The newer linux's have a kernel HZ of 1000

Either you're running 5.4-RC3, or you're running 5.3-STABLE.
Personally I've had great luck with freebsd and

Actually if u check the CVS tree you will see RELENG_5_4 is already
a valid tag and as 5 is a STABLE branch it is technically possible to have
5.4-STABLE although I know where ur coming from :)

I'm also running 200hz on a 4.x machine. It seemed to give the best
performance for CPU tradeoff. I tested 100, 200, 500 and 1000. 1000 just
ate way too much CPU and made it difficult to run more than 1 server on
a dual 2.8 xeon. Just my experiences with hz on FBSD.

VAC doesn't use that message. The message format for a VAC ban in the
logs is:
Secure: \%s%i%s\ was detected cheating and dropped from the
server.\n
One thing VAC certainly doesn't do is tell you the cheat it detected.

That's what you should look for...

you missed the point entirely. It's not VAC that is giving you those
messages, so *you* should find out what *you* have running on the
server that banned them and take it up with whoever wrote that.
Because it wasn't Valve. Valve just told you so.

Check the messages, it is from VAC. Alfred posted the same
server log file message. Its extended by some more info for the
website, thats all. The message is from VAC.

No. As stated before, *carefully* look at the log format listed by
Alfred and you'll see that the format is very different, and in fact
*not* from VAC. It looks more like a HLGuard entry to me...but I haven't
used that in 2 years!

When someone from valve says it's not - then it's more plausible that it
is not.

Is there a way of finding a player online using his steam_id, or a website
that I can do this on, all the ones I have used, like www.serverspy.net
http://www.serverspy.net/ www.game-monitor.com
It seems I talk against a wall in this mailing list.
Anyways, I hope Valve will fix this bug or avoid it
in VAC2.

Finally it makes sense,
Those are not log entries, those are DB entries populated by some sort
of log parser. You'll need to post the actual log entries if you want
valve or anyone else to respond to it.

So, in conclusion, the original text that was pasted wasn't actually
from log files, but was copied and pasted from that page, which explains

But arent they the same people who told us, that log file casing had
also not changed?
this was cleared up with a reply. The messages were from vac, he pasted
output from a log parser which caused confusion about the setup of vac
messages.
Read responses.

This is the next stage of our VAC2 testing. The current release includes
a couple options that we will turn on over the next couple of weeks as
our testing and validation continues. It appears that a few people have
been experimenting and found some of the new options (this is premature,
