Actually 2.6.16.X _can_ be an up2date kernel ... depending on X
In my experience it got much more stable fps as with for example .18,
thats why i run 2.6.16.40+ on most of our machines.
And since there is nothing addet in the latest reps i would need for our
servers .. there actually is no
Hi:
We dont use outdated kernel, 2.6.8-3-686-smp is the last STABLE kernel
on debian, last time i use a custom kernel they told me to only use
stable kernel because thats what they have on his test computers. And
now all we should use a custom kernel because a bad core update?.
Dont think so.
not all distros use bleeding edge kernels for stability rasons and for
continuity reasons. The enterprise distros are a good example of this
and many of them are free. They backport security and other patches
back to the older trees and with enterprise distros having a active life
of over 5

Even numbered Kernels are 'stable' releases, while odd numbered ones are the
ones under development.
2.6.20 is a stable kernel release, and they are now focusing on 2.6.21. Debian
just has not adopted the 2.6.20 level yet. ( They tend to take
Hello,

I dont see the point, why i should update the kernel to above 2.6.20. What did

Tick is 66 and Kernel has 1000 Hz patch applied. It was all fine before this
update, no changes at the system except this source server update!
I am not alone, I tried different well known Linux public servers and all
have the lag problem.

If you read the previous emails, my servers have it too.
Why are you only running 66 tick, if the kernel is 1000Hz?
Is here anyone, who DONT have this problem, and with what
linux/srcds/settings?

Easy to answer, doors don't work above tick 66 :)
Another problem that should be fixed first before new features arrive.

Can someone send me the latest version of the hldsupdatetool.
i'm getting the following while updating:
Checking bootstrapper version ...
Segmentation fault: 11 (core dumped)
Running FreeBSD.6.1.
Ronai the main advantage on the .21_rc* over the .20 was that you did not
need to add the hrt_dynticks1 patch to the kernel, they included it in the
.21
William..
I guess I should have started that by asking those guys if they were just
using the latest stock kernel as handed to them by Debian
