I had to keep rerunning the updater with -verify_all until it finally
finished Checking/Installing 'left 4 dead 2 common' version 23 and
Checking/Installing 'left 4 dead 2 linux dedicated server' version 18

Not like giving them early binaries would help anyway, just look at the
release binaries...they barely ever work the first time. :)

plugin developers, they're obviously irrelevant) have some kind of special

I think you'll find it's the plugins that need to be compatible with the
game, not the other way around.
