They said there will be issues switching forth and back. However, that
becomes a non-issue when steampipe is live.

There is an opt-in beta to the main CS:S application.
You have to opt in to it but the appid is the same as the release version.

Why was the beta removed? There were servers still running for it, and
there was quite an active player base (in relation to some other released
games). The Beta served as a nice snapshot for CS:S. Please correct this
and enable the beta once again.

I think TonyP added connection rate limiting, but it doesn't filter
connection packets. It should be in CS:S as well (implemented in the
engine), but it's nothing effectively different from existing
implementations.
Thanks,
Kyle.

HL2DM/TF2Beta servers don't have vpk tool too (at least on linux). I don't know
about DoD:S, but I think that this file missing at least on all Linux servers

We should be shipping a version of the VPK tool with all client and server
distributions. If one is missing, it's a bug.

I suggest you read the archive of the mailing list a bit more, there have
been several url's describing this new process.

Sorry, I finally subscribed to the mailing list and it's becoming more
clear to me now. Apparently the updater tool provided by SRCDS is now
obsolete and deprecated and that we've moved on to this SteamCMD. What
would be the proper application ID to retrieve the beta server though?

How would one retrieve the files or binaries necessary to run a HL2 linux
beta server? I see about 7 servers on the Linux master list and I'm
wondering how they set up their servers. Is there some sort of parameter I
need to specify in the updater's -beta option?
___
try "-game dod -port 27015 +map dod_colmar".
Also, there is a sv_lan (0/1) convar which enables/ disables the LAN-mode.
If your server installation is really new, you need to restart it after
it's first start. Needed steam files for online mode won't be accessable
else and the server will start
