Hi,
How are you firewalling it? IPTables or other software based firewall will add
an additional cpu load which *could* in theory cause choke. However, it's not
particularly likely unless you have a huge amount of firewall rules.
Does the choke go away when you disable the firewall?

As I understand it, VMWare ESX is quite different to traditional versions
of VMWare (since it's a hypervisor based model). However, I don't have
much experience with it I'm afraid. My work provides Xen virtual servers,
and we did have a customer running a CS:Source server on it, not sure how

Hi Hans,
The message is a little misleading. Your server is actually connecting to
the master servers but isn't able to connect to the VAC servers. These do
use a different port, so you might need to check your firewall. From
memory I think you need port 26900 open, I've certainly seen this error

Yep Linux, but take some time getting it right. As I understand it kernel
config and version is pretty vital to getting a good server going.
Have fun :)

I found that 26900 needed to be open too for VAC to work, though this
doesn't seem to be documented well anywhere.
Hope this helps.
