You are sick and should be banned from this list! To all of you other decent
people on this list how can we accomplish this? If it cannot be done, I'm
leaving ..Please Advise!!

Everyone is clamoring for peace. Maybe if we stop piling upon one another for some
statement that the other person made, there would be peace. Let us all remember that
we are responsible for what we say and do and that we should at all times excercise a
little self-restraint.
Pax vobiscum,
Oh good! now we can have another Conn-Holton debate and leave politics
behind and off the list where it belongs. I would like to direct a few
comments on what I've read for the past days and weeks.
Mr. Kennedy, I have had the pleasure of hearing you many times with the
Detroit Symphony and I
By looking at the bell of that horn, I would think that one would be a
great candidate to be made into a natural horn...

For Stephen: Play as many horns as possible and give the better ones a
bit of time. In the end, buy whatever floats your boat and stick with
it a good long while. It takes a long time to evaluate a horn in
highly personal terms.

There's just not much demand for a G horn, though. Which is what you
get when you remove the valve assembly
Greetings from Japan,
Sorry for late posting. I want to just report about my visiting in
Hiroshima as Prof. Pizka did.
I had visited Hiroshima in 2000. National Cultural Festival was held
there. I was a member of festival orchestra made of amateur musicians

Please lay off of Alan Cole. I have known him a number of years and his is
a decent gentleman with a sense of humor. He is also a fine horn player.

Hornfolk,I have been advised to pour Scotch (booze) down into a sluggish valve.
Anyone ever try this, and would it harm the horn? Did it work? Comments, please!

Pouring Scotch down a horn player will make the player sluggish, so why do
you think it would improve the valve? Seems like a waste of Scotch to me.

I beg to differ. When I pour scotch down myself it improves my playing no

Don't drink any kerosene, white gasoline, naphtha.-AC.
Scotch is about half grain alcohol. Alcohol is a good solvent to dissolve
grease and oil. Voila! Eureka! etc. Kerosene and white gasoline and
naphtha are also solvents. What to do, what to do?

That's true only for blended Scotch as single malts don't contain grain
alcohol. I'm looking forward to a wee dram of Highland Park 18 after
practicing tonight.

I would like to apologize to the list for my postings yesterday criticizing
Mr. Cole and his comments made in jest about the bombings of 1944. I should
have held back, waited a while, then most likely I would not have made the
decision to fire off such a heavy handed and judgemental
It is a wonderful thing when a strayed hornlister comes back to the fold. Together
we are strong, divided we fall. We musicians must band together and share the gift of
music that calms the savage beast and gives us peace in our hearts.

A lot of funny boozings. But what do to prevent valves getting sluggish
?
Oil them with care. Use a clean thin acid free synthetic oil. Do not
over oil them.
Very important: water empty the horn carefully after playing oil the
horn then before laying it down for a while.
Rinse the horn
I'm so glad you mentioned that Hans. I never understood the point of a
grip. I have had the misfortune of cleaning certain horns belonging to other
people only to remove the hand grip to find gobs of nasty green corrosion or
mildew. And then I was the one who had to clean that crap off and find
