How about Mozart`s Musical Joke?
Good Morning Everyone
Wes' suggestion brings back good memories of Rick Seraphinoff and Ab Koster
being served by Johnny Pherigo at the Kalamazoo Symposium three years ago
during the Mozart...If you weren't in attendance, Rick and Ab had a good

Correct, sir. I did miss your point on that one. One of my main goals has
been to retain, as much as possible, a characteristic basis for my sound
concept while also accommodating the more..err... extreme requirements of
some of the music I play. That search has been leading me back from
Do you remember Agony Airlines AKA Allegheny? Now US Airways. One foggy night

Glad you said a 'female' deer, you might otherwise give this list a bad name

I just received and played through the Foerster horn
concerto and found no reason to double or triple
tongue, not a difficult piece at all. It is not my
fav, but a good piece of music for it's style. One
concerto I would prefer is the Hindemith concerto for
lyric combined with slight technique.

Just FYI --
Barry Tuckwell recorded Searle's Aubade, on a now out of print Argo LP,
along with Don Bank's Horn Concerto. The disc also has Gervase de Peyer's
recording of Thea Musgrave's Clarinet Concerto.
And for anyone interested in Searle's music, the CPO label has just issued a

I read with interest Peter's remarks on buying music in
Germany. Alas, things are no longer what they were in
the '70s. I was in Germany in October and was looking
forward to buying sheet music there. I hadn't been
there in twelve years and to my dismay found myself

Matt, thanks you mentioned the superb Hindemith concerto. It
is super lyrical, also jazzy in the fast movement. It is
difficult to put on any concert program as there is still
this certain Hindemith-phobia. Playing it with piano
accompaniment is not the best solution as it does not reveal

Can anyone compare Giardinelli mouthpieces now that they're owned by a big
mail-order outfit with the ones they used to produce on their own? I'm
playing a C10 cup and I'm curious to know, when I see a used C10 for sale,
if there is any way to tell the difference between new and old and whether
Hello Steve, From first glance the newer Giardinelli mouthpieces are longer
by nearly 3/16. The originals were around 2.500 long, and the newer models
are 2.680 long. With a smaller tip dimension of .285 on the newer models
vs. .295+ on the older models. This places the mouthpiece in roughly
My 30 year old C1 has thin, straight sides without the extra heft of the
current design. I do not know if the cup shape is different but the metal is
so thin that it will ring like a bell if you flick it (with the rim off). It
is also shorter than my Lawson (S 670 with a 9 throat) or my
It's really sad about the copier.
When Lewis Songer premierred his Rocky Road Rag at the 1986 IHS workshop
he freely made a copy for anyone (including me) who heard the premiere and
wished a copy. When it came out in print a couple of years later, I also
picked up a copy of it for our local Horn
Yes, I agree. Chemicals are not for non-experts. I only wanted to report
that I used a chemical product that is commonly sold here for mineral
deposit removal. The product is known as CLR. It is non-corrosive and
relatively safe. I carefully tested it and found it did not react with the
metal. I
