It's not exactly the answer to the question you've asked, and while I don't
know the Shilke 27, I have seen Clevenger's mouthpiece, and don't recall the
diameter as particularly small-- but why not try a bigger reed on the
difficult notes (open the opening of your lips in the mouthpiece--do it

I have a horn teacher that basically insists that all of his horn students play
a shilke 27 in gold(preferable) when they are of a certain skill level. The guy
knows what he is talking about - former CSO and first student of Clevenger, but
I am not the average player. Switching to the cup imp

I think it takes several years before a horn player develops enough
sensitivity to equipment to even start thinking about different mouthpieces
for different horns. This realization comes from years of trying and buying
and subsequently selling different mouthpieces... and realizing tha

When switching horns I use the same mouthpiece. However, I find that I have a
much cleaner

I always use the same rim, but have found that sometimes mouthpieces that
are good in one horn, simply don't work that well in another horn.

after previously using the same "old" mouthpiece all the time on all my
various horns.
The reason for changing was not any dissatisfaction with the

I always stuck with the same mp when possible, but sometimes it doesn't
make sense (like when playing on a descant horn, natural horn, baroque
horn). In those cases it really pays to pick a mp that fits the horn. If
I were just switching between double horns I'd always keep the same mp.

Do most of you, if you regularly play more than one horn, use the same
mouthpiece or do you find a favorite mouthpiece for each horn? I assume the
reason for playing more than one horn is that they're different, perhaps one
smaller bore and one larger, and I'm curious to know how many of you chang
