My Holton H180 is 24 years old. The valves are still practically new. There
is no wiggle when you grab the rotor shafts a wiggle them. I play a lot, so
the horn is not just sitting in the case.
Under the backbearing caps I have Teflon grease. On the shafts I have used
molybdenumdisulfide
Bells Up was/is a loose American interpretation of the German term
schmetternd -- which translates as blaringIt should be up to the
director for what kind of sound he wants to get from the Horn section.
