A friend has given me a recording by the German Horn Ensemble. It is 6
and 8 part transcriptions of various Wagner pieces. The performances are
wonderful and sound very much like what I hear from Vienna. Hans, what
do you know of this group? Are they playing Vienna horns?
Thanks

Could a horn be made with the the Vienna horn tapers and design but with
rotors or pistons instead of the Vienna valves or are those valves an
important element in the sound of the Vienna horn? Do the Vienna valves
work as well as modern rotors or pistons?

such recording led by George
Barbateau with the Orchestra of the Sarre is my absolute favorite recording
of this piece. I don't usually like a bright horn sound but this playing is
so vibrant and alive that the musical quality overwhelms everything else and
the bright sound just seems right for t
ePad. It's far too basic but if you want to save
money, maybe it's worth a look. Better choices from MakeMusic are the two
