In my own case, I find that a gold rim on my dry embouchure works best. Silver doesn't seem to move at all for me (besides I'm alergic to silver), and gold seemed too slippery when I tried to change to a wet embouchure in the 1970's. So, it's been gold and dry for more than twenty years.

I like gold because it feels very slightly different. I think it may be because it conducts heat a little more readily or something. It also looks very cool and will make all the other horn players around you envious. Also, you may find that you will never miss any notes ever again. Just

It's way cool. Plus a gold surface feels warmer smoother against the player's lipskin than silver. If you're going with the gold, it's important to get a quality plating job. The real question is: What about a platinum or platinum-plated mouthpiece or rim? -- Alan Cole, rank amateur
