I tried processing my Minolta RAW files using Raw Therapee instead of
Bibble 5, just in case that made a difference.
While the exposure came out better, 2016 still produces a rotated
panorama, which Hugin 2015 doesn't.

The spherical thing in panorama stitcher appears to be too small. If I add

Thanks for the explanation. I took a look at the original paper, and chunks
of the enfuse source code (my, it's been a long time since graphics courses
as part of my CS degree...;-) and it looks like the most efficient thing to
do is to modify the alpha masks on the original input, rather than t

I spent a long time doing that resulting in no improvements.

Indeed, taking the indoor pics without rotating around the lens pupil will
bring huge difficulties in stitching, probably making it possible only with
post edition.
You can try to use manual control points to improve it.

I was talking with my LUG group and they said the problem was that I hadn't
taken my photographs from a tripod that rotates from the lens pupil.
Meaning parallax would be bad in a field of view of about 6 feet. This
problem results in 'align' not being able to find more than about 20
control points
