I think the bar is only meaningful after optimizing. It will be red if

quality of the control points, since any manual ones are likely to be in
areas that don't look very visually similar (since the auto control point
function would have already put good control points in the ar
Actually, having said all that, I now find that when dragging the images
around in the GL viewer, they don't stay fixed together as I was expecting
them to, so maybe I'm entirely wrong to suggest doing it that way!
