If you are creating the new dataset via ftp you probably need to give it additional datasset attributes to tell the system you want a PDS (such as specify directory blocks (dir=10?) and dsorg=po). In my case I create the dataset via ISPF 3.2 and specify that I want a PDS there. thirumurugan

Hi Bob, Good for you that you built a replacement MVS system at your DR location. I agree with Mark’s comments and absolutely there is backwards compatibility for 9840x type drives. Generally this is the case for IBM Mainframe tape drives and only when the drive format changes is backwards
