First Full disclosure I do work for EMC with the DLm and MDL products,
therefore I will not enter into any discussions about one vs. the other (EMC vs
IBM vs STK). But I did want to clarify a few things since there seems to be
some old or inaccurate information (at least based on time).
: SHARE Attendance
Not quite right. There were 1,081 folks in Orlando at SHARE. See the
wrap-up article published on the SHARE web site for more details about the

Thought, I would just add some number (not sure if this has already
been done). I am doing this from memory so they may only be real close.
607 Paid Full Conference Attendees
950-980 Total Attendees including speakers, vendors and all full

, but
one thing to be aware of is that they are different than the MF Virtual tape
systems (this is generally because of the differences in how tape is used in
the 2 worlds).
In summary your answer is IBM or STK (Oracle)

backups run
much quicker they will make restores more painful (slower). It is these
points that make me believe that the article is Open Systems focused. I will
go through the artile later today in greater detail

Yes, Open the door or in some cases just use the Op panel to get the
tapes you want. Some new large libraries you can eject or import 80 or so
tapes at a time. But, if you want them all it is best to open the door and
take them out.

That does seem like a good number, they are being conservative. I
would have thought they would have recommended 8250 as long as 2200 has been
working for you.
