We have recently seen overall system slowdowns while application programs
wait on an MQ response to a PUT or GET. When this occurs, we also see high
CPU delays in the MQ MSTR and CHIN.
We run high-volume (1200 tran/sec) transactions through a CTG/CICS/DB2
structure, and are debating how the MQ
Ted,
Sorry for a very late reply - I've been swamped with follow-ups to my GDPS
question.
My team would be very interested in talking to you about your experience,
and the project you now have underway. Could you spare some time for that?
Also ,if you know of anyone with skills in this arena that
Thanks you for all of the help I've received in investigating the problems
with running a fully duplexed GDPS across distances.
There are several users in Europe running GDPS with data sharing/CF
duplexing, and possibly one in Australia. My company is very interested in
this approach, and would
Has anyone suscribed to the NOREX service? I've attanded one of their
recent forums, and am not sure how much mainframe discussion/skill is
represented in that group.

Ted,
We are trying to bring up a second site - 20 km away, with sync EMC storage
replication and a GDPS with a duplexed coupling facility (to avoid the DB2
recovery time if we lose a site).
The problem we've uncovered is that the latency in communicating between
sites (for CF activity) causes too
Bob,
Thanks - you're right that we had to rely on our personal contacts - IBM's
customer references, and Gartner - those were pretty much the sources we
had.
What suprised me was that IBM could not provide us with any contacts for
fully duplexed GDPS users, but that may be peculiar to what it is
Is anyone running a formal infrastructure risk mangement process? We have
set up a function, using the NASA PRA approach, and would like to find some
consulting help to get the program up to full speed.
So far, I've not located anyone.
Any ideas?
To all who have helped with our research into GDPS with SRDF/A,
THANKS!
What we've found is that virtually no one is running a GDPS with syncronous
data replication, and we fould only one instance of active data sharing
across sites.
We did find a handful of people running dual sites with
Having just upgraded from a Z900 to a 990, we've been watching CPU usage
closely, and see that in our CICS AORs we're using 3-5% of the CPU (per
STROBE) in DFHAIP/DFHEIP-EXEC(CMD-LEVEL)INT PGM.
We never saw this as a CPU user at all in the 900.
Since no application changes or CICS/DB2
We are beginning the construction of a third data center, and I've been
tasked with developing our mainframe configuration plan.
I would like to run a true data sharing Geoplex (hot/hot, with load
distribution done by our foundry devices behind the WEB servers).
In talking to IBM, I've been given
