My 2 cents, 6.2 is not current - might as well go to 7.x if you have to
upgrade at all.

Have you checked PowerLink for Microcode fixes? Specifically you should ask

You might want to create the dataclas named DEFAULT. Check the SMS books to
be sure. Then at least you get rid of the null DSORG.

Willie,
Not saying this is a great answer, you could look into the RACF side of
things.
Have each dataset or generic dataset profile defined in RACF (wild card what
you can) and then use the RESOWNER and RACF DFP segment to pass the dataclas
you want. Takes some one time ACS coding.
Have had

Go to the HMC and do problem analysis on the PCHID to see if you are getting

There is NO way to compare ISPF to CMS XEDIT. XEDIT beats all.
ISPF is and has been lacking, now things do get better now and then.
You can compare VSE ICCF MACRO logic to ISPF and come out even.
Last requirement I wrote was on the GUIDE VSE to MVS impediments with Pete
Clarke. Circa 1986?
Jim,
Your comments are well founded in fact! IBM support knowns what you need.
Novell is still a PC oriented vendor. It's borke, I'm sorry wait for the

Ran into the same issue. We were able to isolate the SNAP target datasets to
a SMS Storage Group ONLY for EMC Timefinder.
We did allocate some volumes from each EMC DASD box to the production SMS
Storage Group (the number depends on your usage and file sizes). This was
done to ensure that
IDC3506I A REQUIRED VOLUME LIST HAS BEEN OMITTED

Willie,
John has you looking in the right places.
I would first find out what the allocation request was. Was it something
'wrong' like 4000 Cylinders? z/OS 1.6 gives the KB of the request.
Did the volumes enabled have the space available? Suspect not if you are
allocating into the overflow pool.
Dennis,
You will notice the same problem with HFS or zFS.
The response I always get from the list is that IBM has a product, (not a
great answer considering zFS and HFS are base components).
It would seem prudent for IBM to include the lacking function in the base
z/OS or DFSMS. They DO NOT,
When a DB2 ASID requests a dump, the initial allocation request is larger than
a MOD-3.
Currently we just reply 'D' to trash the dump request.
What controls are available in z/OS 1.6 to set a maximum primary/secondary
allocation for dumps?
SMS Dataclass? Parmlib ?
Regards,
Doug
Gents,
Thank you for the commentary, will add larger volumes to the budget wish
list, possibly the question was not clear. So here is a more specific
question.
When DB2 wants to dump, specifically where do I get to specify the primary
and secondary space allocations for that dump?
Regards,
wants more than a MOD-3

This part is well documented. Issue:
DD ADD,SMS=(DATA=dataclas,STOR=storclas,MGMT=mgmtclas)
to set the SMS classes
Another novel thought,
IBM should also make their premier DFSMSDSS program ADRDSSU capable of
backing up and restoring HFS and zFS files at the file level instead of just
the shell they live in.
Maybe this is in z/OS 1.7, or a vision in 1.8?

Marco,
You did not mention the platform you are on so,
VSE/ESA - IDCAMS - CANCEL STEP or CANCEL JOB
z/OS - has a CANCEL but did NOT implement the CANCEL JOB. They claim
conditional JCL is the answer - what a waste of key strokes.
This lack of function has been on my list of requests to IBM
Can anyone tell me how to restore a multi-volume z/OS HFS using DSS and end up
with the restored HFS in 300 cylinder extents? DSS is so 'smart' that it
always deletes my pre-allocated HFS and tries to make 9000 cyl extents. Guess
what, I want to put the HFS on some MOD-3's instead of MOD-9's.
