Walt,
You are truly one of the gentlemen of this list and will surly be missed.
Always offerring information, no questioning motives or situations, no back
biting. May you have a great retirement. Enjoy the family.

We just had an error at a DR exercise. Problem seems to be with WLM
managed PAV volumes when LPAR hosted by VM. We ran a DR last year, same
operating system, same DR site, with no problems when the LPAR was native
on the CEC.
This year's test was hosted by VM. Our operating system for this
We are trying to setup a chained VRS within RMM. The manual is straight
forward on how to do this. The question we have is on the processing of
these VRS definitions. If we define a dataset VRS with a NEXTVRS as a volume
VRS, will the volume VRS only be processed after the dataset VRS? Or will
Ralph,
In a very similar situation. Running z/OS 1.4 LPAR on z890. We also have z/OS
1.7 LPARS. I updated our IODF on a 1.7 LPAR, performed the POR. All LPARs
IPL fine. Only caveat is the 1.4 LPAR can not view or update the IODF built on
the 1.7 LPAR.
Good luck,
Jimmy
John,
Simple solution would be to RACF protect the jobclasses. Allow test jobs to
certain class. Then use JES jobclass parms to inforce your standards.
Good Luck,
Jimmy

Not knowing your hardware environment, or anything else about your shop,
here is a possible solution. Albeit an expensive one.
You can set your desired catalog on a separate volume and use IBM Flashcopy
or EMC Timefinder to keep an identical volume elsewhere. Not cheap by any
means.
Jimmy
Gray,
The GRS ring has to have CTC connections between all LPARs that you want
to share data. The more LPARs in the ring, the worse performance gets. At
one site, we had 8 LPARs (6 were in a single sysplex). It was managable for
our needs. As for sharing tape, I prefer the IBM product ATAM.
One way to have disparate sysplexes share tape drives is with the IBM
product ATAM. Uses TCPIP to have systems communicate tape drive usage.
Varies tape drives online and offline to individual LPARs when needed.
Good luck.

Just some profiles I played with when installing 1.8;
1. Authorize CK command in SDSF.
a. Added ISFCMD.** to SDSF CLASS. UACC(NONE)
b. Added ISFCMD.DSP.SCHENV.** to SDSF CLASS. UACC(NONE)
c. Added ISFCMD.FILTER.** to SDSF CLASS. UACC(READ)
d. Added ISFCMD.DSP.** to SDSF
Jim,
Funny this is on IBM-Main this morning. We just resolved the same issue on
1.7. It has to do with the DSNR RACF class. Please contact me offline for
details on how to resolve.

I'm looking for the samples to setup RACF protection on initiators. It's been a
while since last implementation. I thought there was something on the CBT
tape. Searches of the CBT and archieves have not been kind to me. Thanks in
advance for all help.

John,
The exclude version of the RNL is what we have here. No issues since it was
set up by IBM during a MIM to GRS conversion over 3 years ago.

Hugo,
We have shared the RMM environment across muliple releases of the operating
system. Our SYSPROG, Test, and Production Sysplexes share RMM. Toleration
maintenance allows this to operate fine. Contact me off list if you would like
more info.

Gilbert,
Set up an NJE connection, then you can use /*ROUTE PRINT JCL.

Marc,
I had a very interesting experience building our GRS ring. One point I have not
seen mentioned is that for GRS the CTC's must be a device type of BCTC. If
you would like to discus offline, just email me direct.

Can I dynamically activate a new COUPLE dataset with new
SYS1.PROD.WLM.CDS1 members Will setxcf_force work? Thanks all.
Bob,
You can replace the couple datasets with a series of commands;
SETXCF COUPLE,TYPE,xxx,ACOUPLE=xxx

John,
Just went through this exercise over the weekend.
Why's;
Has to do with freespace as I was told. If not done the volume will not see the
freespace.
How's;
//S1 EXEC PGM=ICKDSF,PARM='NOREPLYU'
//DD1 DD DISP=SHR,UNIT=3390,VOL=SER=xx
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
It was my experience that the main cost difference is not the hardware, it's
software. Open system software was lisenced by the processor. So doing a
little math.
1 IFL = 1 processor = $100,000
AP Websphere = $10,000 (very old price)
Total = $110,000
30 servers ( 4 way ) @ $3000 each = $90,000
Mark,
You would be doing yourself a big favor by contacting Dinosoft and talk with
them about the TREX tool. We recently went through a similar exercise. Good
luck.

John,
I'm just finishing up this same exercise. We're using the TREX tool from
Dinosoft. Please contact me offlist and I'll give you the details. Not as
bad as you might think.

I do have some SAS code that will identify when a VSAM file was openned for
output. It uses SMF data as input. I will supply the code off list, so
please make your request off list.

John,
Quick way to get a list of command characters on the system is to issue the
command 'D OPDATA'. This may be what you are looking for.

The configuration we are using is Couple Datasets, no coupling facility,
hence DASD only. The CTC's are SCTC's. We have gone over the CTC
definitions and are about to again. The CHP's used are all from the
original sysplex definition. New controllers and devices were added for the
new LPAR.
We have a 6 LPAR DASD only sysplex. We need to add a new LPAR to the
configuration. Using existing CHP's, control units and devices were added
for the new LPAR. A working unit was used as a model. The new devices
connect to 5 of the 6 LPARs, 1 LPAR comes up as Path not operational. Does
