Could someone please advise if there is a way by which we may know the
exact maintenance level (say RSU or PUT level ) of the z/OS running on a
system ? I wonder if IBM has anything in place in SMP/e which could tell us
the maintenance level based on the highest level of PTF in
We update CVTVERID with the maintenance level as part of our cloning process.
This works much better than I thought it would. It's also
reported on by MXI.

I agree that this is the best method and there is no other way that I know of
other than SMP/E.

How do you update the CVTVERID. Is that an assembler process?

Lizette - It's a zap to the nucleus. I can send you the job if you're
interested. It obviously has to be changed each time maintenance is applied.

How about GIMXSID?
This would show SMP's idea of what is applied. Not exactly human
readable but you might be able to compare across zones or pre/post
maintenance.
