I'd believe it. There are many reasons why query.exe might appear embedded
in the URL of a Linux-hosted Web site. Some of those reasons have already
been mentioned. Another possible explanation is
if http://bahn.hafas.de is Linux on z
I doubt it, but when I see my neighbour again, I'll ask him. Might take a
while, though.

Not really. Netcraft shows that it is running Linux, but trying to narrow it
down beyond that is not particularly easy.
O/S fingerprinting has several well known techniques. As, of course, has

Well if this is the same company, it seems that some of the company runs
SUSE Linux on Intel/AMD and zSeries along with some other OS on zSeries.
They don't mention what the other OS is.

You can try running Steve Gibson's IDSERVE from
http://www.grc.com/id/idserve.htm. It interrogates and displays the http
headers from the webserver.

After re-looking at it, I don't think it is Linux at all.
If you go http://bahn.hafas.de/ you will see you are re-directed to:

Notice the query.exe.I would say off hand that this is a Windows box.

Is there a way I can tell if http://bahn.hafas.de is Linux on z. If
it is that says interesting things about whether z series might be
able to handle google. The site does timetable lookup, trip planning,
etc. and apparently is among the best for planning European trips.
