Yes, the access and modification times are preserved. But, the change time is
updated because the metadata is changed due to update the last backup
timestamp. But, as indicated, if the wildcarding selects only those files to
be archived, the backup and delete can be done with a single command.
DFSMShsm supports wildcards and has exclude capabilities. It will even do a
DELETE if you want to delete all of the files after the backup.

this. It can backup all files, files based on wildcards and exclude specific
files as directed by an EXCLUDE. A UNIX shell command is also available, to

The TS7700C provides a really nice option for what you are being asked to do.
You can continue to take the backup copies that you do today, and have the
TS7700 seamlessly migrate them out to the cloud for you. Best of both worlds!
If you want to go directly to the cloud, the DFSMShsm/dss, DS8K
DFSMSdss supports host-based encryption on it's dump command. The support was
added before tape encryption became generally available. Still a possible
solution for you since your tape environment doesn't support encryption.

value for CDSSHR. CDSSHR=RLS indicates that HSM should access the CDSes in RLS
