To answer the two questions asked:  I have tried it with/without the apostrophes. Without them I get an error message that they need to be within the apostrophes. BIN or not, I can't get it to work. But yes, I know that what I am transferring can't be translated, so I specify BIN for all ftp

I have been chasing this around for over an hour, looking at different manuals... For some reason I can't do an ftp get command that will work to go to (example only): /u/abc/some.java.file.jar and then copy that to my windows laptop. I get various messages about using a fully qualified nam
