Interesting that you used pipes.
I have made changes like this several times over the years,
including before I had pipes, and I always used XEDIT.
Isn't that easier than writing a pipe?

but I guess I was just lucky.
Not that I expect this situation to be all that common,
but nothing beats personal experience for seeing
that it really is a problem.
