Mirroring does not replace good backup tapes: an accidental ERASE or FORMAT
is mirrored perfectly well to your DR site.
Secondly: if you simply have a two copy mirror, performing DR tests means
you break the mirroring during the test and at that time you no longer have
a mirror.

DITTO has a function to extract *CMS files* from a DDR tape. This way you
can obviously read a 3380 DDR and write the CMS files to for example 3390s.
I never tried it but the online help I just consulted for re-verification
seems it is just perfect. But, not surprisingly: if you have a fullapck
You may take one of your physical 3390 DASD and try to convert it to 3380

To do this, attach a DASD to yourself, run ICKDSF's command INSTALL
UNIT(vaddr) SETMODE(3380), detach the disk and vary it off and back on.

Mike,
I didn't mean to be smart, sorry if it came out that way. I just wanted to
stress that everything you need to perform a DR, including hardcopy reports,
utility tapes, DR procedure manual, CD's with software manuals, etc. has to
be on a DR site or in the off-site storage, that's all.

Thanks for the reply and helpful information, Tom. I'll engage our
Storage Group and see if they can create the 3380 storage you mention.
Thanks,
Dave

If by "latest" you mean 0903, I did that last month. MAINT 500 was not
big enough. Bumped it to 900 cyl and VMDPACK worked.

Mine breaks while complaining insufficient storage, but after a few

Title: 3380 DDR to 3390 Question
No can do. As the RESTORE section of
HELP DDR states: "Data can be restored only to a DASD volume of the
same or equivalent device type from which it was dumped." 3380's and
3390's are not the same device type, even if they are being emulated

IIRC you can restore to *LARGER* volumes without issue, but not the other way.

Hello Listers,
I've been given some DDR tapes of 3380 volumes and I'm looking
for a way to restore them to 3390. Is this possible? I've tried to
define TDSK as 3380, but that fails.
Thanks in advance,
