The cbu is turned on via the HMC (I think). When you're done, you turn it off and the machine goes back to normal state. We've done this a few times and production VM stays up, doesn't hick-up or anything. Same thing for when we turn it off. That's how it works for us. YMMV Steve

Prior to CBU deactivation, we usually vary off any processors that were turned on by the CBU. See Chapter 4, System z, Capacity on Demand User’s Guide, SC28-6846-02. This manual also describes reaching the expiration date without manually deactivating. Note - the terminology can be confusing,
