Curious to know if anyone has experienced issues cloning sles10 SP2
using the clone.sh script as described in "The Virtualization Cookbook
for SLES 10 SP2". The script works perfectly the first time I invoke
it. However, if I immediately invoke it again to clone another virtual

Hello List,
I'm wrapping up the install of DFSMS/VM...yikes...not the most intuitive
install I've ever done. Anyway, one of the installation steps calls for
making the DFSMS 1B5 minidisk publicly accessible. How do you do this
short of including a link for it in each user directory entry? Is
Hello List,
I'm reviewing the installation requirements for the DFSMS/VM feature. I
notice that it requires the VMSYS file pool. When I installed VM many
months ago, I selected to install to minidisks instead of SFS. As a
result, the SFS subsystem is not active or configured.

I ran into this problem as well. I went back and re-installed my master
image. When I got to the partitioning step, I changed the FSTAB options
for dev/dasdx to use "device-name" instead of "device-id". I'm not sure
what one selection has over the other but it sure makes cloning a lot
easier.

Let me apologize in advance for asking so many questions related to VM
software licensing. I don't get a clear picture sometimes of what is a
non-chargeable feature and what is. I'm preparing to install the
non-chargeable DFSMS/VM feature. However, the install instructions list

I've been researching the use of the DFSMS/VM feature, mainly for tape
library support. I'm having difficulty determining if it's already
installed on my system or if it's a separately licensed feature that I
have to order. I'm currently running z/VM 5.3.
Thanks...Chris
Question on Dirmaint:
When I run a DIRMAP command to see my minidisk layout, it shows 3
volumes that seem to be orphaned: the Ownerid, Addr, SysAffin fields
are blank and the gap size is the entire volume. I recognize these
three volumes as the result of a typo somewhere in my user directory
I need a short lesson on backing up DASD volumes using DDR.
I've added four 3390 volumes to my z/VM configuration and have formatted
numerous mini disks on them. I would like to get a full backup of these
4 volumes using DDR. However, when I run DDR, and supply the input
address of these volu
We are running z/Linux on our z800 and connecting to a 2105-800 (Shark)
over a SAN. I would imagine it to be setup the same way on a z9
connecting to a DS4800. I can share our experiences and configuration
if that will help.

Thank you to all that responded to my HCD question. The various
responses have been a great help.
I'm currently installing z/VM 5.3. I have two other LPARs on this box
running z/OS 1.4 and z/OS 1.7. Can I maintain (either temporarily or
permanently) my hardware/software configuration for the z/VM LPAR using
HCD under z/OS? I have a huge learning curve ahead of me and not having

When running the INSTPLAN (first-level install), what is the difference
between installing a product into the VMSYS filepool or to a mini disk?
The guide doesn't really explain what this is or offer any
recommendations. When should I choose one over the other? I left the
default of M for minidisk
Actually I'm past that point. I've run the INSTVM exec and at the point
of running the SERVICE exec (step 6, page 113 of the Guide for Automated

I'm a z/VM newbie performing a 1st level z/VM install from DVD. I'm at
the point of loading the service files from the Stacked RSU DVD. The
Guide for Automated Installation and Service says to look at the README
file on the DVD for instructions on how to receive the files to my 500
