IPF came with ready to use service machines, one of which was VMUTIL. IPF
was a separate product, but on of the required products if you ordered VM in
SIPO format. FLIST, BROWSE, WAKEUP, ACCOUNT, GETFMADR, DCSSBKUPRSAV all
modules part of IPF. IPF also gave panels, not documented how to use,
VMUTIL is since ages no longer part of the base VM system; WAKEUP is, but
the execs around it forming VMUTIL are no longer there.
As about the midnight problem: I try to explain the issue in documentation
of RxServer (RxServer can be used to create a functionrich VMUTIL server).

Guess that shows how long I've been at this. I've been carefully nursing a copy
of VMUTIL since SP5. 8-)
Maybe I need my brain flushed. I suspect IBM would pay for

VM/SP3 for me. I still use the DTR$WAIT to get it started after a
change to the WAKEUP file.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Slippery Rock
I should have mentioned that VMUTIL was not part of VM/Sp but was
included in an licensed add-on package called (I think) ISPF.
Since I stole it from that package I guess I'm illegally running it.

I want to close the console logs of several server virtual machines on a
z/VM system automatically at midnight.
Is there something on the basic system I could use
- similar as the midnight message which is sent automatically as well -
or is a server running WAKEUP or any other time controlled
Go to http://www.vm.ibm.com/download/packages/
and take RxServer (to get code to have a full-blown VMUTIL using WAKEUP)
Install VMUTIL
Then get CONCLOSE from the download lib too and issue
SF CONCLOSE EXEC to VMUTIL
SM VMUTIL ADDON ALL 00:00:10 () EXEC CONCLOSE

Outside of the guests themselves closing their consoles -- using another
guest with some kind of scheduling capability and using SEND/FOR commands is
the only way.

VMUTIL is part of the base system, and does tasks like that. If you use it,
set it to fire a few moments before or after midnight - longstanding issue of
losing events precisely at midnight.
