Most of the mobile phones can not detect ad-hoc wifi. You need to create a
Access point for that. In linux u can use Hostapd for this cause. As you
are using ubuntu, you can easily find it in ubuntu software centre. But all
the configuration have to be done manually in text mode. no GUI suppport

Sir I tried creating the wireless connection as you said but my phone does
not detect the laptop, and my wifi adapter is on because I am able to
