Hi All,
I regularly work on repeating the results in IEEE papers, ie playing with
applied mathematics.
So far I have tried Octave, Scilab and Scipy.
When mathematics is your concern, let me be very frank, none of the above
come any where near Matlab for the reasons

see octave.sourceforge.net/packages.php

Sabarinath sir,
I havent tried scilab, so I dunno how useful it will be for me. My
purpose is to build a simulation model of a motor. So, will Scilab be of
help to me ?

Hi Roshan,
Thank you for your kind reply but the fact is that I have tried
octave before. However I didn't find it as smooth as matlab. Also, the
functionalities in matlab aren't available in octave. Not to forget the
toolboxes in matlab, which are if very much importance for my work.
Thank
Scilab is also an alternative to Matlab in linux. Scilab has a built in
translator to convert small changes in .m file to scilab file. (changes
like % for comment in matlab is \\ for scilab ...)
it also has a module called Xcos for modeling, equivalent to simulink.

.Try GNU octave.. It is compatible with matlab although there is some
differences. as quoted by Wikipedia "Its syntax is very similar to MATLAB,
and careful programming of a script will allow it to run on both Octave and
MATLAB." Trying Octave is worth in a way that u can write C++ program that

Hi,
Does anyone of you have any version of Matlab for Linux ? If so
kindly reply. Very urgent for academic project work.
Thank you
