need apache to resolve the hostname ? Do you need the DNS resolution as
a part of a server side script o
Can't you use CNAME? Or just add a separate A record?
This has nothing to do with split horizon.
Even 1000 domains can resolve to the same IP.
Only same domain resolving to two different IP is addressed in split horizon DNS

search for name based and ip based virtual host for apache.
