i too am facing the same prob. I have independent C-Media 8738
Sound Card ,4 spk & SPDIF. It has been working in linux since RH
6.1 but from
win95 to winXP it doesn't autodect & install on its own i have to
install drivers to make it work.
Anyway in RH 9 too it plays only the front 2 speakers &

speakers.
only two -speakers work under gnulinux, redhat8.0, the other 2.1 don't.
