Thats because Tiger is too old now, and doesn't support the latest Flash
Player. You could safely update to Leopard without upgrading the ram, but
you would soon need to upgrade that as well, because Leopard is on it's way
You're right John, what I meant was that Leopard is becoming less and less
useful to an average user.
And yes, I completely forgot about Snow Leopard, that would also work.

I just got a G4 iMac. It's a 15 800MHZ model. I wanted to run Apple
Hardware Test on it to be sure it was solid before I start working on it.
It currently has 10.3.9 on it and the mouse works fine, but as soon as I
boot into the hardware test, the mouse won't move. The light on the mouse
is on,
I've used the AHT on an identical machine before, and the mouse worked.
Which version of ASD works on these machines?

Hopefully this isn't what is happening for you, but I removed a ram chip
out of a G4 iMac, and it didn't want to budge either. The problem was that
the chip appeared to be corroded into place! Don't know how that happened.
I did get it out, and cleaned the slot with a tiny bit of rubbing alcohol,
This may be totally different, but I couldn't get any songs that weren't
44.100khz to load onto my iPod Touch... You might check that in comparison
with other songs that do play, see if you can find any difference. You can
find the info you need if you right click on the song in itunes, and click
What's the processor speed? Christopher is right, OS 8 will suck online. Go
with the best version of OS 10 you can run on it.
Maybe that will fix your ethernet problem as well. I have seen ethernet
cards go bad in those machines though...

Just beware of the known problems with a G5 iMac. The 1st generation G5 iMac
had faulty capacitors, as well as power supplies, and the generation after
that commonly had video chip problems. If you can get a 1st generation G5
iMac, that has good capacitors, and a good power supply, hopefully one
Beware of the heat sinks. You will separate them when you pull the
bottom off. They can become fused together. I use a knife to seperate
them. You could damage the motherboard if you just pry the bottom off.

You would have to swap the whole motherboard to do get the 600MHZ processor
in the new unit. It should work, just make sure that the cooling fans line
up and are in the same places in both cases. I think it's worth it.

I know that I was able to swap a 400MHZ board into a 500MHZ case. It's
really not that big of a deal, just keep track of your screws. Once you get
them both opened up it should be pretty clear if it will work.

If you open up the first generation G5 iMac, you original capacitors are all
stamped with a K. If they are stamped with something else, they've been
replaced. I've seen ones stamped with Y and X.

Those were notorious for having faulty power supplies. I have had, and have
seen dozens just like it. It's most definitely your power supply. You can
buy a rebuilt one for about $100 on ebay.

No. The fastest processor you can put in a blue and white is a 1GHZ sonnet
processor. I think you could find one of those on ebay.
