The problem is bent metal. I can get the disk to spin up with the help
of a screwdriver. Sorted.

I've tried to install a pulled dvd drive for a MacBook. Physically,
was a bit of a job. Felt pads and velcro tape. But I think that the
drive is dead.
It's a long time since I've seen a working slot load G3 iMac power up.
On the optical drive front, what should I expect to do on start up?
I've made some progress. I think I had the dvd mounted too far forward
initially. But the beauty of mounting with velcro is that I can easily
adjust the positioning of the drive.
The dvd drive powers up and makes noises. It will suck in and spit out
disks. However, it seems to have real problems
