I am happy to report that I no longer have unexplained daily Imail
crashes, buggy untested "upgrades" to deal with, sudden price tripling,
or paid support that never has a solution.
I migrated my 1600 Imail users to Smartermail on Monday and it all went
perfect. It is extremely easy to use, seems

another client to this option. Do we just put the other copyall address in
there separated by a comma?

The cheapest and easiest way to go is to get any old PC with, I would say 1 Ghz
or above and 512MB RAM or more and set up your own Web Server, whether it be
Linux/Apache or Windows 2K/IIS.
The latter is easier to set up and manage, the former is much better on
My guess would be that in the case of "emergency" they are looking for
something away from their
office and a DSL line. ;)
Now more to the point, you could pull this trick off using a URL
redirection. Perhaps your registrar offers
something like this. Is was popular a while ago to redirect to
To heck with hosting, get a PC, throw Debian Linux on it, strap it to a DSL
line and make it happen.
Sorry, had to. :-)

As a hosting company we provide IP's upon request so you don't actually HAVE
to have one unless you're using an SSL cert. Yeah, simply add an A record
and point it to the shared IP provided.

Yea, if they can't set you up, then I'd say get a new hosting company, but
most I've dealt with are pretty good when you ask the right question. I
can't imagine any host forcing a business to use those archaic url's they
default to. Chances are your developer is just used to having everything

Your DNS idea is fine. You can point your DNS to whatever you like - the
key to having your WWW site show up properly is the Virtual Host setting in
Apache or the Host Header settings in IIS. It's extraordinarily simple to
configure, and is likely something your web host can configure if asked.

The hosting company is using Host Headers and will direct incoming requests
to the proper files by host header, not IP address.
Find a new hosting company.

Ah, last I heard it was just one of those 'things' with 8.22. Runs fine
otherwise. Have been testing the 2006 series to replace it on a new server,
glad that it's taken a while with all the random problems I see popping up
in each subsequent release.

We are using a hosting company.
Our developer is putting together a website that will be accessed by
handheld devices.
We wanted to call the website http://emergency.floridadistillers.com to
resolve to 64.79.167.6, which is the address of the box that the webhosting
company gave us.

if you've had problems with 8.22.

Heck, I'm still trying to get the Web Client working right in 2006.21 :-)
As for the SMTP thing, that anything like the SMTP crashes in the 8.x
series? My 8.22 has done that for ages, I just have the O/S set to restart
the service if it takes a dump. Never expected it to actually get fixed.
FYI - Seen this is the RISK consensus.
