Hello All,
Good Day !!
I had a concern regarding initial revision number that is assigned while
first import.
Lets proceed with an example. Say I have a directory structure which I have
to import into the CVS repository for the very first time.

I know what it means, but I wanted to give Rich an authoritative

Revision numbers are for CVS's internal use only -- you should learn to
ignore them. If you want to give things version numbers that are
meaningful to you, use tags.

I don't know what you think you're doing, but that is not correct
syntax. You should have the CVS user name, a colon, then that user's

That means you're missing the -f in server_args or you need to add
"passenv = PATH" to your xinetd configuration file.

I have read that you normally create a module by placing a line in it with
some stuff into the modules file that sits in the CVSROOT directory of your
repository.
A co-worker created a module earlier, but it was not done in this way. If
you look at the modules file it shows no sign of it. He sa

That's pretty old. If you upgrade to the current release (1.11.1p1),
which you can get from www.cvshome.org, you'll get better error messages
and a whole lot of bug fixes.

CVS is a *file* versioning system, it does not have any concept of a
revision number for any larger package. Most people use tags to
identify higher-level version information, so perhaps doing a status -v

The problems is that cvs checkout works in other
directories other than the e:\projects directory.
when I use the command line cvs that came with WinCVS,
I can operate on e:\projects without a problem.
the cvs version with my cygwin setup (clien/server

I have read and reread the documentation. I must be missing something.
Even when he follows my directions, the merge is not what he expects. He
does not want to ask the list for help because (and this is a quote) "it is
like asking for directions".
I've narrow it down and it looks like this is the problem. There is a
directory that was added later and isn't in the working copy, when I do the
update I get all the "it is in the way" errors, everytime. If I manually add
the directory to the CVS\Entries file, it works fine.
Anyone have any idea
I'm sorry. I meant no slam against men by that comment, it was to explain
why I was writing 'his' email. He keeps coming over to my cube and calling
me to his a bit frequently. Somebody had to write it.
