in the Modules file) no longer have the Repository file in the CVS

We have recently noticed a difference in the way that a merge works
between two branches and between a branch and the main trunk.
Consider the following:
branch taken from trunk
work proceeds
some files removed from trunk (head)
new branch taken from trunk
working copy updated to new branch

Thanks for the info. The mentioned thread is very interesting indeed as
it deals exactly with my problem. I highly agree with Michiel's opinion

In that this is my first time using CVS I have set up a repository and then
deleted it because I have found that I wanted a different directory
structure. My reasoning for this is that I am trying to make development

Many thanks in advance.

Dead means removed from the HEAD (but still available for older versions).
So someone made cvs remove file, cvs commit file.
how to recover from dead state?
Just re-add it. cvs add file, cvs commit file.
