What color is the fiber cable? Orange is usually Multi-Mode and Yellow
is usually Single-mode. Since it is just feeding one wing of your
school, my guess would be that it is multi-mode fiber.

You need to configure your HyperTerminal session with the following
settings,
Bits per second - 19200
Data bits - 8
Parity - None
Stop bits - 1
Flow control - Xon/Xoff
After you have established your HyperTerminal session to the HP Switch
