The 530 Los Angeles Intl. Airport TIS was strong for awhile this morning,
7:09 a.m. E.S.T., with professional announcers and jingles. Very long tape,
never heard it repeat in the 15 minutes I listened.

Even with 100 watts, a low frequency, and a Valcom antenna that is still
a great catch. I believe this is the most powerful TIS in the US.
LAX uses the same model Valcom antenna that the 530 TIS here in Denver
uses. For some reason the FCC calculated the Denver station to have a X4
gain factor.

I heard no carriers at all! I used both the Drake R8 and the R-390A with

As others have stated, it has not been a DU Season hardly at all. Few
of them have been heard. 4QR 612 has been the most common, but there has
been much more of a Northery route for signals this year. Here on the
coast, many years that DUs are strong, the solar numbers are higher and

Steve,
When staying in Yorba Linda last week I was surprised at the signal the TIS at
LAX was putting out. They were S-9 +30 db. I would say that the distance was
about 38 air miles. The station sounds like a regular broadcast station.
Wonder what there power is? Radio used was a R-30 cc

Bro Stair is on WLNO/1060 all night as well as the Las Vegas station which
if running legal has 43 watts. From time to time New Orleans will switch
pattern/power early and come out smokin. XEEP runs 20kw at night
and the difference between them and the 100kw on 1050 is very noticeable.
In reference to R.G. Stair.

stations will play Stair's program. Isn't that aiding a convicted child
