CFAX-1070 is licensed to Victoria BC; 10 kW at night with a huge null to the
south to protect KNX.

CKMX is not a regular for me. but 1070... is that Vancouver too? why
would they have three signals, 1040, 1070 and 1410.. all doing TSN?

It came back on at 0228 with distorted audio. Back with normal audio at 0230.
Radio-locator does NOT have patterns. This has been explained several times. It
has "predicted coverage area" maps. It uses the word pattern at the bottom of
the maps, which I think is unfortunate. Some resemble the
KNX has been reported as being off air and while the signal isn't huge here
in Redding I can usually hear them every night.
Combine KNX being off and I guess good conditions, I logged 2 new
stations to me.

listened long enough
The stream is going and programming is continuing online.. but we know that
doesnt mean much these days

Thanks for tip. I'll check it out. I haven't seen any lightning at all.

I just noticed KNX-1070 is off. UNID SS was there with a good signal then
suddenly disappeared. Then very weak EE oldies. After a few minutes the SS
station reappeared all at once.
It has an auxiliary tower and must have a generator. I wonder what has
happened.

Last night's geo storm certainly seemed to wipe out the TP DX here
in Alberta, but perhaps contributed to some other unusual DX. At
1000 UTC I heard 1010 KRNI in Mason City under CBR for only the second
time ever.Even presuming they were on day power for some reason
that's still onl
What with having to use the north Flag this morning, and others
reports of lousy conditions with a DU bent, and my own monitoring, I
expected a shut out. Um, not quite actually, I'm wondering if
this was very local, as Bruce and Gary often hear east Asians better than I do
pretty darn goo
Maybe a little off topic but interesting. I got my Novice license in 1969; I
was 13 years old.

A number of stations in Florida have long standing STAs to run day facilities
at night to overcome Cuban cheaters.
We have one in Northern California. XED is a big time cheater. KTCT has had
that kind of STA since 1999. It's licensed for 10 kW at night but gets to run
50 kW.

It's been like springtime in Seattle lately. Temperatures peaked in the
low 60s yesterday and today.
So, it's perhaps no surprise that today's TP DX was typical of May or
June. I had pathetic, wispy little carriers making very brief
appearances on 972, 1386, and 1566. That was it. Maybe
It was back to earth with a thud today. Only Australia's 4QD on
1548 prevented a shutout on audio. That one had poor to fair audio from
about 1440 to 1455, but the Aussie opening didn't extend to the x-band,
and Asians were totally lacking, with even the carriers being few and
feeble.

Thanks for that, Gary. Conditions yesterday were not at all very good in
Masset, but then, I had a truncated session with only one NW BOG in
operation, as we left yesterday for home. I suspect that I missed the
better part of the morning DX-wise due to time constraints. 73,Walt

This morning, the Fishbarrel was receiving on the North Flag, Walt,
hence the lack of the DU signals you were hearing. Unfortunately,
my West Flag is down temporarily due to tree work, but should be back
by tomorrow morning.

I think that the tricky thing about Florida is hearing much beyond the
GAGGLE of Cubans bombarding the area.
Those Cubans are (as we say in these parts) "wicked loud" even here
almost all the way up the US East Coast.
Even though the distance to the Midwest and to Florid
Hi Walt,

A total blank! Despite this (at 15:09 UTC), I'm getting weak audio on both

everyone's DX! 73, Walt Salmaniw, Victoria, BC >>>

The thing that's interesting about South Florida MW is the daytime fades and
beats as stations from the Southern states come sliding across the Gulf.
They're a long way away but they're in there without the benefit of skywave
:-))
